Palms
Vanilla fragrance wafts as the chocolate cake cooks. Moving to the dining room, she stares out the window, daydreaming over blankets of snow. In winter’s stillness, a deer darts, the field cracks and moans. She feels the memory of her feet as hooves and skin as fur. Gasping, she utters, “I too am a deer.”
Palms is an interdisciplinary dance project exploring transformation and loss through the story of a woman’s memory of being a deer.

The Making of Palms’ Set
John Deshazo single handedly built the three story stage after work hours, often into the darkest hours of the morning, and accompanied by his two boys. The time-lapse video marks a unique glimpse into what is involved behind the scenes in building a dance work.
The Making of Palms
The creative process of Palms began in 2015. This is the seed beginning.
